SearchPatterns

New app SearchPatterns is live in the Canadian App Store.
If you fly Search and Rescue patterns, this is the app for you!  It will help you calculate multiple values that will help you manage your search patterns.

  1. Nice start but need it to add various other info to be usefull

    CSP coordinates
    Leg 1direction magnetic

First turn direction R or L
    Creep Direction

    Total number of legs

  2. I'm hoping to eventually get coordinates figured out so you can enter a CSP and then it auto generates the follow-on waypoints based on the type of search/spacing etc.

    Thanks for the comment.

    1. There is a good bit of Open Water Rescue training occuring for MOB events. These searches tend to be smaller, more defined areas. We could really use this app. Could it allow smaller search areas such as increments of miles or nautical miles? Often our tracks are 1/2 mile or less depending on sea state.

  4. I just bought this app, I think it's a super idea and was hoping it could work for me. I agree there needs to be a few more things but I know it's hard to please every one however I'm in the coast guard and did notice that the expanding square and sector searches were both turning the wrong direction... The turns should always be to the right.. If this is intended for actuall application, that needs to be fixed. Otherwise it's a SAR case waiting to happen.

  5. The app was built with the intention of using it for flying operations, as even indicated in the description. For flying SAR, the normal procedure is to have the pilot flying (using left seat) do all the turns in their direction, i.e. Left. Therefore this is not wrong.
Due to the interest of many marine oriented SAR professionals, including Coast Guard personnel, I intend to make a separate but similar app designed for marine SAR. No timeline on this, but I hope it will be able to further assist in SAR training/operations!
I intend to include Left/Right patterns and track/heading directions.

    1. Ok that makes perfect sence, I'm not here to ruffle any feathers but in the US we do EVERYTHING different from the rest of he world lol bummer I'm some ways but just so you know the planes and boats alike make there turns to the right... And yes I knew it was a plane app but the two mix and match perfectly he only difference for my application in the real world would be to make sure the legs of the patterns gave the aircraft at the verry least 1 min of level flight before they make a turn otherwise the will always be in a bank. I'm super excited to see the new app you are making I'm going to get it for sure! Btw thanks for replying to my post! It showed you care not many do
